Saint George Winners! Please join me in celebrating the success of our Year 9 winners, who brought home two honours from the I-Construct Awards ceremony hosted at Solent University last night. It was a night of celebration and pride, as our students were recognised for their hard work and achievements, surrounded by the love and support of their families. Women and girls are reshaping the construction industry by challenging stereotypes, gaining industry experience, and leading with skill and determination and last night was proof of that. Congratulations to all the award recipients!

Last week Yr 11 Triple Scientists visited Clanfield Observatory, the largest amateur observatory in Europe, to see some of the objects they have been learning about in real life. Unfortunately it was too cloudy to see anything, but they got to look at the different telescopes and domes, the lovely volunteers talked about how they worked and showed them some pictures that had been taken using the telescopes. A fun, if not cold and cloudy, evening was had by all.

Meet the Governor Rebecca Heneghan was elected Staff Governor at Saint George in 2022 and plays an active role in school development through the Curriculum Committee and the Policy Working Group. She also chairs the Business and Travel Network, which connects teachers across Southampton to share best practices and improve teaching and learning. Rebecca trained to teach at Saint George in 2017 and has been a dedicated member of staff ever since. With a degree and background in marketing, she brings valuable real-world experience into the classroom. After completing her PGCE at Saint George she first became Head of Business and then Head of Vocational Subjects in 2023. While her specialism is Business, she has also taught Computer Science, Travel & Tourism, and recently introduced Health and Social Care to expand options at KS4. Before teaching, she worked as a Teaching Assistant for Deaf children in a Main Stream school in Winchesteran experience that shaped her inclusive approach. Rebecca is passionate about providing practical, engaging education that prepares students for life beyond school.

Saint George Catholic College 2026 School Production- Our annual school production is taking place on Wednesday 11th February and Thursday 12th February. Doors open at 5:15pm and show starts at 6pm. Congratulations to former student Jack Ryan who was ordained a deacon on Saturday. Please keep him in your prayers as he prepares for ordination to the Priesthood in the summer.

On Friday 12 December, our Year 7, 8 and 9 students took part in an inspiring visit to Winchester Cathedral, exploring its history, art and architecture.

Meet the Governor! Bernadette Holloway is one of the newest Foundation Governors having joined the Governing Body in March 2025. Bernadette is the Safeguarding Link Governor and is also a member of the Catholic Life Group and the Finance and Admissions Committees. Bernadette is a retired solicitor having worked for the Crown Prosecution Service for 29 years.Her son Nolan attended St George and she has very fond memories of his time at the College. Bernadette is looking forward to supporting the College and making a positive impact in trying to ensure St George is the best it can be.

Today we were blessed to welcome Father Paul Ubebe, OMV, who celebrated our Advent Mass with Year 11 here at Saint George. Throughout this Advent season, our other year groups have also taken part in Mass, celebrated by Fr Tom, Fr Ross, Fr David, and Canon Michael. A heartfelt thank you to all our visiting priests for supporting our community and helping us prepare for Christmas.

We're delighted to share that The Times has ranked Saint George Catholic College 6th nationally, moving up three places from last year, among secondary schools without a sixth form, based on the 2025 GCSE results. An impressive 43% of our students achieved grades 7–9. This is a fantastic achievement for our whole community, and we are incredibly proud of our students and staff. Well done, everyone!

Our Year 8 Geographers had a lovely time at Cadbury World on Monday to support their work on fair trade practices in lesson. Pupils enjoyed an engaging talk from their education team about multinational companies, industrial sectors as well as some chocolate industry secrets! There was plenty of time for pupils to enjoy the rest of the exhibitions too, and of course, lots of free chocolate!
