All St George students participate in the Physical Education curriculum, using our excellent facilities. Physical education needs to be seen in the context of education for life. Young people’s increasing knowledge and understanding of the need for an active, healthy lifestyle should be matched to a strong, growing awareness of the sporting and recreational opportunities in the wider community.

By its very nature, Physical Education is active. However, it is important for students to appreciate what is involved in making decisions, choosing options or selecting skills if their understanding of the activity is to improve.

Having fantastic sports facilities provides a number of options for students. The facilities include a large sports hall and a multi-gym facility, combined with many acres of field, supporting the delivery of high-quality PE lessons and the ability to offer an extensive extracurricular programme at the College, which is extremely well-attended. Teams for football, basketball, rugby, cricket, badminton, table tennis, dodgeball, volleyball, cross-country, netball and handball are represented at the College across both genders and all ages. In Years 9, 10 and 11, students have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of PE by gaining either the BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Sport or the GCSE PE qualification.
