Our Art students are taught in a progressive manner with targets set on an individual basis. We actively encourage independent thinking and problem-solving and strive for individual creativity. There is no house style and our staff are encouraged to contribute their individual skills to the character and work of the department. As a consequence, we create an environment that is forward-thinking and adaptable to the needs of the contemporary education and art worlds.

At Key Stage 3, pupils follow a broad, fine art curriculum that covers drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture (including ceramics) and contextual studies. At Key Stage 4, all students follow the AQA syllabus for Art & Design. The course is structured to allow students to work to their individual strengths, while underpinning their performance with sound technical skills and a developing cultural and critical understanding.

Students are required to build a body of work that includes sketchbooks as coursework. They have two coursework projects to complete (60%) and an externally set assignment with a 10-hour exam (worth 40% and undertaken over two days).
