Charitable Works

Charitable service lies at the heart of life at Saint George. Inspired by the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, our students and staff support local, national and international charities throughout the year.

We regularly raise funds for charities such as CAFOD, Aid to the Church in Need and Mary's Meals. Through initiatives such as non-uniform days, cake sales, sponsored events and our annual World Porridge Day, students gain a deeper understanding of global poverty while making a genuine difference to the lives of others.

Throughout the year, we also support a range of other causes that resonate with our school community. Over the last few years, these have included breast cancer charities, Papyrus, Abby’s Heroes, toilet-twinning, anti-bullying initiatives and emergency humanitarian appeals.

Romero Day

One of the highlights of our charity calendar is Romero Day, our annual pupil-led fundraising event held in honour of St Oscar Romero. Students take ownership of the day from start to finish, organising activities and running stalls across the school.  In recent years, Romero Days have raised an incredible £4,200, enough to fund a year's education for 100 students at our twinned school, St Joseph's, Bamenda, Cameroon, and more than £3,000 for Hope Now, the Southampton charity supporting communities affected by the war in Ukraine.

Charitable Service

Service at Saint George reaches beyond fundraising. Members of our St Vincent de Paul Society visit local care homes, spending time with residents and developing friendships.

Our long-standing partnership with the Poitiers Food Bank at St Joseph's, Ashurst reflects our commitment to serving the local community. Students and families regularly donate food and other essential items, while school staff refer families for support whenever needed.

We are proud of the generosity our students show and the compassion they demonstrate through their actions. By serving others, they put their faith into action and live out Christ's call to love thy neighbour.

Purple Community Fund

Our students also raised £3,337 for the Purple Community Fund. Their donation provided replacement school shoes for children in Africa who lost their uniforms and belongings in a devastating fire. The accompanying video shows the lasting impact of their generosity.
