At Saint George Catholic College, we encourage every student to explore a broad range of future possibilities and to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed and aspirational decisions. Our careers provision is a whole-school programme from Year 7 to Year 11 and is structured around the eight updated Gatsby Benchmarks.

Our programme includes careers learning through PSHE and the wider curriculum, encounters with employers and employees, further and higher education, technical and apprenticeship providers, workplace experiences, careers fairs and enrichment activities, labour market information and impartial personal guidance.

Our Careers Programme

Our published Careers Programme and Calendar sets out the planned and progressive careers entitlement for each year group and the key activities taking place during the current academic year. The programme is sequenced to support students as they move from early exploration in Key Stage 3 to informed post-16 decisions and successful transition in Year 11. We have a commitment to ensuring that all pupils have a minimum of two weeks’ meaningful workplace experiences by the end of Year 11, including 5 days in Year 7 – 9.

Personal Careers Guidance

Every student is expected to have at least one personal guidance meeting with an appropriately trained careers adviser by age 16. Additional guidance is available according to individual need, particularly when students are making significant study or career decisions. Students or parents/carers can contact the Careers Team if further support is required.

How we measure impact

We regularly evaluate the quality and impact of our careers programme. This includes student, parent/carer, staff, employer and provider feedback; destination and NEET information; participation and outcomes for different groups of students; and regular assessment of progress against the Gatsby Benchmarks using Compass+ or equivalent Careers & Enterprise Company tools. Evaluation is used to improve future provision and inform wider College planning.

Provider access

We welcome engagement from employers and providers of further education, technical education, apprenticeships and training. Our Provider Access Policy Statement explains how providers can request access, the opportunities available and how Saint George meets the statutory provider access requirements applicable to our 11-16 age range.
