  • Home Learning

Homework is an essential part of the learning process. We look for parental support in helping to make sure that homework and assignments are completed when required, in addition to the 30 minutes to one hour of reading or revision per week which is expected of all pupils.

    Homework is important because it:

    • helps to consolidate and extend what is learnt in the classroom
    • helps teachers to assess students’ learning
    • develops individual learning responsibility
    • develops research and revision skills
    • prepares students for GCSE study

At both Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8) and Key Stage 4 (Years 9-11), your child should expect homework at least twice a half-term and to a maximum of once a week for most subjects. Tasks will vary according to subject and year group. Some teachers share this on MS Teams, although please be aware, this is not all subject. All students are expected to record their homework in their planner.

You can help your child with their homework by providing them with a reasonable place where they can work, or by encouraging them to make use of the school’s resources. You can also help by checking that homework is recorded in your child’s planner and encouraging them to meet homework deadlines.

Students can find support with their homework at Trinity, Monday to Thursday, 3pm to 4pm. The ICT rooms are also open at break and lunchtime for students who need access to a computer.

We want to work with all our families to ensure that parents have a more detailed understanding of our requirements, regarding homework, how often it is set and where the homework is set. We aim to empower our parents with information that enables you to support your son/daughter with home learning to support their progress in school and to meet deadlines.

The tables below give an overview of each year group, and give details of each homework, how often it is set and whether it is online or written in the students' planner for each subject.  Different subjects set homework online using MS Teams or online platforms such as Maths Genie, Kerboodle, and Seneca Learning.   For us, it is important to maximise each student's progress, and we need the flexibility to be able to set up home-learning tasks that are both online and in students' planners.

    Support for Homework:

Homework Club for all years is open every day of the week. At lunchtimes, this is in room 11 (ICT Room) and after school, Monday to Friday, in Trinity, our inclusion centre. Homework clubs are led by our staff if students would like support.
