National Recognition for Saint George Catholic College

Saint George Catholic College is celebrating after being named a Silver Winner in the Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026, one of the highest honours in UK education.

The award recognises the exceptional contribution schools and educators make to the lives of young people and places Saint George among an elite group of schools from across the country to receive national recognition this year. The school was recognised in the category of Making a Difference – Secondary School of the Year.

The Pearson National Teaching Awards, often described as the most prestigious awards in education, celebrate excellence, innovation and dedication across schools, colleges and early years settings throughout the United Kingdom.

This latest achievement reflects the commitment and hard work of the entire Saint George community. Every day, staff go above and beyond to ensure students receive not only an outstanding education but also the support, encouragement and opportunities they need to thrive.

The award comes during another highly successful year for the school. Recently ranked among the top-performing secondary schools in the country without a sixth form, Saint George continues to build on its reputation for academic excellence, strong pastoral care and a culture rooted in Gospel values.

While national awards recognise outstanding achievements, what makes this success particularly special is that it belongs to the whole school community. Students, staff, families, governors and supporters all play a role in creating the environment that makes Saint George such a remarkable place to learn and grow.

As a Silver Winner, Saint George now progresses to the shortlist for the Pearson National Teaching Awards Gold Awards, which will be announced later this year.

Everyone at Saint George Catholic College would like to thank the staff whose dedication makes achievements such as this possible, and the students whose enthusiasm, kindness and ambition inspire the work that takes place every day.

This national recognition is a proud moment not only for Saint George, but also for Southampton, highlighting the outstanding work taking place in schools across our city.
