Letter from the Chair of Governors
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Our College year for 2019/20 has started on a great positive note fuelled by our remarkable GCSE results, keeping St George as the best performing mixed school in Southampton and positions us within the top 15% of schools nationally.
Our September Admissions, which were substantially oversubscribed, led to more appeals than we have ever experienced before, a testament to our success and the overwhelming demand for places. In addition, our intake of baptised Catholic children has reached 98%.
You will see that work has indeed commenced on our new £5 million Science & Technology block along with other peripheral activity such as, a new Multi-use Games Area (MUGA), four new modular classrooms, additional girls’ changing facilities and additional parking bays situated outside of the main gate.
We are now into a third year of stable leadership under our Headteacher James Habberley with the St Anne’s partnership-alliance providing the continuity and management oversight of Lyn Bourne as the Executive Head. For the third year in succession, the annual Local Authority Inspection has again recognised our ongoing commitment to excellence with an Outstanding grade classification.
The ASPIRE values and our Christian ethos continue to play a huge part in the day to day welfare of the students where Safeguarding, Pastoral support, team spirit and the recent appointment of Fr. Luca as our new Chaplain all contribute to the St George family spirit.
With a new academic year just started, let us pause a moment and think how we can all help each other within this family and Aspire to become all that God has created us to be.
I look forward to hearing from parents, guardians, staff and students with comments, questions or concerns.
With best wishes.
Chair of Governors
